Just got the .17 HMR and have questions and need advice
« on: December 03, 2005, 03:03:44 PM »
Hi all.

Just picked up a new sportster and would like to know if....#1 Are wood stocks and foregrips available for the sportsters? #2 What is the talk of an O-ring all about? and #3 What is lapping? and would like to know proper break in procedure for the bore?

Love the gun so far but just not too keen on the plastic furniture (forever old school i guess) and after looking around here it seems i paid too much for it. It did come with the Davidsons lifetime warranty, if that is worth anything?

Thanks in advance. :-)

Welcome aboard! :D  Check out the NEF/H&R Centerfire Rifle forum stickies and FAQ, lots of info there that applies to the Sportster, also. All stocks that fit Handirifles and Ultras will fit the Sportster, they're available from NEF/H&R, Brownell's and Gunstocks, Inc. You may be able to trade for a set in the NEF/H&R Classifieds, too.

I like the feel of wood too but a plastic stock can be molded into nice contouring grips tho. As for mine aside from disassembling the rifle and cleaning it i had to do nothing (tinkering) to get it to shoot sub-MOA and i think that hollow stock may play a big part. so give it a chance before you change stocks.
