Rem Mod 700
« on: December 01, 2005, 06:47:25 AM »
I have a Rem mod 700 BDL chambered in 7mm Rem Mag.  I am toying with replacing the factory synthetic stock with a higher quality stock.  I have been looking at HS Presion, Bell Carlson, and Mcmillan.  Have any  of you replaced the stock on your Rem with any of these?  What are some pros and cons to each.  Right now I am leaning to the Mcmilan.

My H.S. Precision stock (aluminumn bedding block) is about 20 years old, and the Bell and Carson's are between 10-15 years old, so my comments might not apply. I have not owned a McMillan, but have several B&C's. They are good stocks, especially for a big game rifle. They seem to absorb a bit of recoil, too. The H.S. is better for accuracy, but doesn't handle as well. The H.S. is on my long range varmint gun, a Rem 700 in .22-250.

I've got both and on the plus side the H&S you don't have to bed the McMillian you have to bed.  The McMillian will run around $200/$300 more and hear they are going up the first of the year.  Right now their web
specials at $350 is a pretty good deal may want to get one now if your interested.

Cabelas has a sale on Mcmillan stocks right now.  I think they are going for ~$280.  The last time I checked they were out of the Magnum long action stock.

I put a Bell Carlson on my 270 win a few years ago and like it real well. Got the stock new in the box for $20 at a gun auction, it had a litttle scratch in the finish, but a little flat black paint fixed that. I bedded the action with the Brownells Acura Glass and floated the barrel. The rifle shoots a 1/2" group now, with the wood a little over an 1".  My Weatherby 300 mag came new with a Mcmillan, like this one also. Zeak
