Thanks for the heads up. Call Warne and find out it that was intended or what. Glad that's all that happened and it was not more serious.

I know it's really dangerous to try to diagnose from afar, never having seen the actual problem, but that smaller radius and thinner base suggest to me it might have been a Contender mount you got shipped in error.  The hole spacing would be the same.  Just a possibility....

A quick check on a couple of my Contender barrels produced 0.810-0.815" in the vicinity of the breech area.

e30-06,  mine ave. .806". Hope this helps. Seems that the scope would tend to move forward, unless it hit you before coming completely apart.  Pat   :?

Believe me, I feel your pain!  I had the same thing happen to me with a Redfield 3-ring base set on a 10" .357 maximum barrel.  I had just bought the gun, and the third shot resulted in the entire base/ring/scope assembly ricocheting off my forehead.  Luckily, I got away with a little Dermabond and no stitches.  But it definitely had me a little trigger shy for a week or two!

Mine simply resulted from too much weight without enough contact area with the screws.  This is the exact reason SSK uses a 6-screw base instead of the four.

I think you just invented a new saying, "a feather in the cap, hurts less then a scope in the scull".
I remember an article that was writen up about that caliber and what it took to keep a scope on the gun, and the scope requirement for long life.
I remember they had the same problem as you, they sent the package to warne and they had to heat treat the screws and use locktite, should anyway. They ended up with warne Tatical 6 screw rings, with hardened screws, and a bushnell elite scope. I remember this as being the Only thing that would stay on thier gun, thier test concluded with over 380 shots on the set up and no problems.
I do remember that that scope choice was from SSK as a recomendation for thier handcannons.
Good luck with the new set up, safety first.
