.300 Weatherby
« on: November 21, 2005, 05:05:18 AM »
I was fortunate enough to find a Winchester Model 70 Classic stainless synthetic in .300 Weatherby.  I'd like to try using 190-200 grain bullets in it as I think they have better down-range ballistics than the more common 180 grain bullets.  Does anybody have any preferred loads for these heavier bullets that they can share?

200 gr. Nosler Partition with 79 grains of  H4831. Accurate and deadly on anything from chipmunks to Polar bears! It kicks though. Good luck and work up to it

I prefer the 180 gr. Barnes TSX to the Nosler 200 gr. Partition.  Better accuracy, penetration and down range performance.  The Barnes 180 gr. TSX has a Ballistic Co-efficiency rating of .552 while the Nosler 200 gr. Partition is .481.  My favorite load for my .300 Weatherby is 87.2 gr. of IMR-7828ssc behind the 180 gr. Barnes TSX for 3,314 fps.  Extremely flat shooting and deadly accurate.  Lawdog

P.S. - Remember with any load you get given to you that doesn't come out of a reloading manual, start under the stated powder charge and work up.  As a rule I start 10% under.  LD
