First I want to say hi. I have allways loved the look and feel of the TC rifles and now I am considering on getting one but thought I would ask a few questions first. First what is the difrence between the Encore and the Contender? I have heard the the barels are interchangeable is this true? I would also like to hear about how acuret they are. I am wanting to ues it for big game hunting in Co. and maybe some long range target shooting. Thank you for your help.

Both the Encore and Contender have easily interchangable barrels/stocks/grips. The Encore can be chambered for much higher pressure cartridges (even such cartridges as the 300 Win. Mag. and 458 Win. Mag.) than the Contender. With proper cartrige selection, either gun is capable of taking game from varmints to elephant.

Both guns can be easily changed between rifle and pistol configurations but unless you buy a pistol frame to begin with, it's not legal to use the frame with pistol grips or barrels less than 16 inches in length.

Both guns are capable of excellent accuracy but the Encore trigger tends to be a bit heavy and is a lot nicer to shoot after a good trigger job.

A couple of points of clarification:

Encore parts interchange with Encore parts, Contender parts interchange with Contender parts. Encore and Contender parts do not interchange. I am sure that is what Grumulkin was saying, but it confused me at first read.

If you want to use them as both pistol and rifle a Supreme Court decision makes it legal to switch from pistol to rifle. So far no case law supports the conversion from rifle to pistol. It is a point of contention that comes up fairly often. The way to avoid trouble is to do as Grumulkin suggests and start with a pistol. You can use any barrel length with a pistol, but no rifle can be configured with a barrel less than 16 inches and be legal, so be careful there.

They are very accurate, a few things to look for though: grab a complete rifle, any cal. Put the buttstock under your arm pit and secure it there. Next grab the fore end and feel for side to side play. Usually won't affect accuracy but will annoy you if it significant and felt under recoil. My first one did this and I sent it back twice, the 2'nd time it was fixed problem solved. Encore is much tougher than the contenders and I am willing to carry the additional 10 or so ounces more. A 24" .30'06 shooting 180g Barnes TSX's and you got your self a nice deer to elk sized game combo.
