Chinese Like their bile

This is part of story in todays newspaper. Orlando Sentinel.
   Though China has outlawed the killing of its endangered black bears ,more of a legal appeasement to the international community, more than 10,000 black bears are locked in the basement hell of primitive bear bile farms.
  Here`s how the bears are protected: Their toes are cut off, because it`s
  cheaper than de-clawing them. For the next 20 years, metal bars hold them so the bears can`t move and disturb catheters stuck into their gall bladders. All they can do is stand in their excrement while needles milk their bile so men can use it as an aphrosdisiac. The bears are in constant pain until they die.  
  One other line in the story says." God help the animals the Chinese don`t care about.'  
  You guys have any thoughts on this? You don`t have to be politically correct in your comments either.

Some countries have customs that go back thousands of years. Myself, I can't condone this type of thing but far be it for me or anyone else to tell them what to do. :shock:

My thoughts? I think you should forward the story to PETA.
Then they can all run over there to save the bears & maybe the Chinese Gov will lock them all up.  :grin:

I dont expect countries like China to have the same respect for life as we do, any life. Says volumes about them that they would think bear bile would help with impotence anymore than ground up antlers or rhino horn.
To me it says they just aint real bright.
I wonder if theres a chinese market for deer guts.

During a game board meeting last week, one of the biologist said that the new drugs Viagra, Ciealis, and Lavietra, have shut down the black market trade in Black Bear gall bladders.  That means the trade in bile is drying up.  I'm sure some bile farms will remain open in china for a short while, but I feel that they will eventually go under as the new drugs become more available.  

The reason this came up was I have a proposal in to the state game board to reclassify Black Bears as furbearers and allow them to be trapped and their fur sold.  My concern was that the gall bladder trade might cause my proposal to fail.  The biologist said he did not feel there would be a problem from those concerns.  Hope PETA and Friend Of Animals don't hear about this till it's too late to stop it.

It's China, not America.  If their people wanted things to be different, they'd act to change whatever they don't like.

What they do inside their borders is their affair and their business and no one else's.

PETA & Feminazis's as it gets! That is why I like quick kills when I hunt or

Good point, Sir! A leading General resently stated that if in a war against
the US, losing 200million Chinese would be acceptable. Truth be known,
they would probably consider it a good thing, because like you said, they
don't value human life. I am no prophet, but I feel that someday we will

When dollars signs enter the picture, humane concern for the welfare of dumb beasts finishes the race far in the back of the pack of priorities.

Animals used to produce products for men are treated poorly and with sickening cruelty in every country in the world, the U.S. of A included.

Animals are eviscerated and skinned alive in slaughter houses around the country every day.  Some animals are raised in pens so small or so crowded that they are never able to take a step over the course of their entire life.  Appendages and organs are routinely removed for human convinience or conformity.

While the point may not be to address the issue from atop a fine high horse, I'd still think we might "remove the timber from our own eye before pointing out the splinter in our neighbor's".

None of the slaughter houses gut and skin animals alive, you must be a veggie.

People do weird things for MONEY, some are age old, driven by custom, but most today are solely for the gold.  Take for example our friends to the north, the Canadians and their practice of hunting the Harp Seal.  They slaughtered them on their breeding grounds by clubbing them to death.  Those killed are the "white coats", pups younger than 2-3 weeks old.  They are killed for their fur.  This practice has been described as the "largest slaughter of Marine Mammals in the world."

Just last night on "60 Minutes,"  there was a story about the Japanese fishermen catching shark in International Waters, cutting their fins off and throwing the rest back.  I am not a big shark fan, but this seems a bit extreme to me.  Guess them japs just gotta have their Shark Fin Soup....... :roll:

 Just an added comment on the "shark" piece on 60 minutes.
   The fins are cut off while the shark is ALIVE then the finless shark is thrown overboard to sink to the bottom and drown. All this just for soup!
  The number of sharks that meet this type of ending is staggering.
  This type of behavior may well be  cultural in nature but as a sportsman
   i find it repulsive.
   Now if we could turn these "eat anything" folks on to the ordinary COACH-ROACH think of the service they would be doing for the rest of the world plus the supply is endless.
