Similar ammo as they used in WW 2 (US Carabine).

There are several 30 caliber US rounds, common commercial rounds are:

30-40 Krag
30-06 Springfield
30 Carbine (or M1 Carbine, but that's confusing too, because the M1 Garand shoots the 30-06 Springfield)

However,

I believe you are looking for the 30 Carbine.  You can have a custom barrel made like from TC Custom Shop or you may find a used one from some of the regular dealers here people give links to.

You can get to the TC Custom Shop Page from TC's page, but here is the link:

http://www.foxridgeoutfitters.com/section.cfm?section=16

It's actually Fox Ridge Outfitters.

Look around, you might find a used one, or even a dealer may have a new one in stock.

I just went ot MidwayUSA and typed a search for "Contender Carbine" and got:

http://www.midwayusa.com/esearch.exe/search?TabID=0&category_selector=all_products&search_keywords=contender+carbine

Shows 3 different barrels, all special order, but you can order them.  About 1/2 way down the first page.

30 US is the early name for the 30/40Krag. I have several boxes marked as so and I even load my hunting rounds for my contender barrel(SSK 14") using 30US head stamp. I believe the Win1895 are  marked 30US in the Krag and the earlier 30-06 which was really a 30-03 at  first are marked 30-03 and 30-06 depending on the actual caliber. As for the 30cal MI I'm not sure how they were marked.

If you are looking for a 30 carbine barrel, check at Ed's TC or check EBay.  There was one on Ebay the other day.  Don't know if it has ended yet.

Some history on the "Cal. 30 US"

Problems with the .30-03 resulted in production again being halted in order to adopt a new cartridge. The .30-03 had a round-nose bullet eventually proven to be inferior to the sharp-pointed German-developed "spitzer" bullet. In October 1906, a vastly improved cartridge with a "spitzer" bullet and reformulated powder to reduce the .30-03's severe bore erosion was adopted as the "Cartridge, Ball, Caliber .30, Model of 1906," now widely known as the ".30-'06." Existing barrels were rechambered for the new cartridge and all subsequent M1903s were in .30-'06.

Prior to the 30-03 the predominent cartridge was the 30-40 Krag, a rimmed cartridge that has never been one of the most popular cartridges in the USA. The 30-03 was a bit different from the .30 US model '06 in that it had a longer neck. You can fire 30-'06 in a 30-'03 but not always the other way around.

As to where you can find a barrel in the .30 US caliber you would have to decide which of the military cartridges you wanted to use - the obscure 30-'03 or the common 30-'06. The barrel twist remained 1 in 10 for both cartridge / rifles and it is still the standard twist in 30-'06 today.
