Well Bullet Maker not all of us can work the railroad though maybe we tried. I worked on the Section crew for the Soo Line  for a month back in the early 70's Pay was 5 something a hour which was back then good money I thought I had it made, finally a good job. Well the Union stepped right before my probation period was up  and said we cannot use you as you had a previous surgery and we do not hire any one that has had a previous surgery.

Jim the UNION didn't make this rule. It was something that the UNION AND THE COMPANY agreed on before you were even hired. Knowing a little bit about contract negotiations, the union agreed to that rule in exchange for something else. Thats how it works. Learn something about contract negotiations before YOU BLAME THE UNION! How many time are you going to blame the UNION for losing your railroad job? It was an agreement the UNION and the COMPANY had!

Quote from: jh45gun
The boss'es brother told me they would not hire him for the same reason. Probably is one reason I think unions SUCK!

You wouldn't think unions SUCK if YOU were collecting your retirement right now..........WOULD YOU???

Well The Railroad did not tell me I could not work it was the union guy and I am not collecting retirement so yea they SUCK! You can kiss the unions backside all your want in most cases they are screwing up America and the common guy is paying for it, or would be if not for the places that are not union and charge a decent price for work and services done. You may sing a different tune if your laid off and the union does squat to help you which could be a distinct possibility.

One other thing which I have stated before since the unions are a socialist idea and are leftist in nature and try to get every one union to vote liberal democrat one other reason they suck!

Savage .250, It remains to be seen how this new system will work out. There are 47 different companies offering coverage and each one of them has a different plan or some have multiple plans. Kind of like uncharted territory as even the professionals can't even figure it out. I am sure some people will benefit a lot and others will be worse off. Just have to hang on for the ride and see what happens. :D

I think the biggest thing that affects us now is mass communication.  In the past it took weeks or months for information to flow.....Now, Jung the coconut farmer can get real time quotes for the commodities market....He knows what Coconuts are selling for in Chicago.......

Americans are also know as the hardest working people in the world.....yea these companies can outsource to india, but they have to hire more people than in America because on any given day a third of the work force doesn't show up for work......

I see jobs going overseas, but I also see them coming back as well.

Surely the EPA and OSHA makes it more expensive to do business than in a country where you can dump toxic waste in a river without fear.

I don't know where it's going, but I do know things are changing.....we teach or boys to be girls.....and our girls to be boys.......we teach them there is no god..........no right or wrong........we can't even call a Christmas tree what it is........for fear of the ACLU driving the local government bankrupt with a huge law suit......

Activist courts are the biggest problem.....legislating from the bench the judical system has shifted the balance of power and is now setting policy from the bench.....get rid of about half the laws, and about 2/3 of the lawyers and things will get back to normal.......

First:  I think it's wrong that the unions can say "To work here you must join the union".  Look at how the Airlines are failing to keep up with their employee's retirement plans.  GM and Ford will follow suite.  As will other companies here real soon.  A crash is coming, a real depression.  I hate to say that, but that is what I feel.

Second:  If the Americian car manufactors would build what the people want, they could sell their cars.  My neighbor has had five transfer cases put in her 2004 Envoy, and she was just told that GM could not fix the problem.  Just keep replacing the transfer cases.  The front end keeps going out on my F-150, three times in 60,000 miles.  I'm getting rid of it before the warrenty goes out.  Going to get a Honda Ridgeline.  My other neighbor's Windstar eats front wheel bearings.  New set every year.  His son's car (some kind of little ford) had to have a new engine at 70,000 miles.   My hunting buddies Chevy 1-ton, keeps losing transmissions, and injector pumps.  Two transmissions and two injector pumps in 60,000 miles.  My 92 Honda Civic, 320,000 miles.  One water pump, and new CV boots every spring.  Never been in the shop since the warrenty went out.  My 86 Suzuki 260,000 miles, one shift kit $27.00, and one altinator.  I bought the vehicle at 70,000 miles. My son's 2003 Kia Sprotage, one fan clutch and front differential seals at 63,000 miles, under warrenty.  My EX is still driving the 74 Toyota pick-up she got from me in the devorce.  She says as long as it keeps running she will keep driving it, mileage unknown.  Her new hubby has gone through many americian cars during the same time.  In fact my 82 Honda Civic, that got wrecked, we pulled the engine out and a friend put that engine in an airplane and it is still running.   It did not need to be rebuilt, but he had to take it apart to check it out anyway so he replaced the rings, and timing belt, that's all.

In other words Americian cars are built to fail, (I was told this by the service manager of the local ford dealership).  Their reason?  So they can sell you a new car every two to three years.  Not so, with foreign cars.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

I agree my 89 GMC Jimmy is a rust bucket but still runs fine ( 4.3 Engine)  and has 200,000 miles on it my buddy had a GMC Van of late 80's Vintage that had 300,000 on it before it died  (4.3) and would probably still be running if he would not have gave it to his kid. I hear of the GMC and Chev products in the early 90's vintage that are not as tough and I suppose the new stuff is worse. I have heard of examples of Ford and Chrystler and Jeep that are just as bad if not worse. They must not want cars and trucks to last over 10 years like they used to.  Evidently they decided they were not selling enough cars fast enough eh or they are getting more shoddy with putting them together ( yea union  :( )  It is a known fact if you can buy a vehicle that was made in the middle of the week instead of a Mon or Fri you will get a better vehicle as too many absenteeisms on those days. This has been verified in Consumer Reports and I have heard it from a guy who worked on the line for a car company. This was a while back but I doubt things have changed much since the unions protect such poor workers.

Its the company`s and CEO`S, the union`s have nothing to do as who orders the parts, which are coming from China, and Mexico, per the CEO`S orders, so they can have higher profits for themselfs.

Also, the Unions are not poluting the streams, nor are they spraying poision`s in the air, nor are they spying on you, nor are they looking in your windows at night. :)  :)  :)  :)

No Bullet maker, but it is the unions that protect the pee poor workers that due to their sloppy work and absenteeism help put out a poor product! This has been documented and reported so it is not bunk!

Sorry guy`s cant agree with you on this issue of Union`s protecting sloppy workers. I was with the AFL-CIO local 1289 for 28 years, I know unions, and believe me, their was no sloppy workers. Their was slow workers, fast workers, some better than other workers, but no sloppy workers, workers that came to work early, some that came to work late,(they were docked pay) but all were honest workers.

Now believe me, I know what your trying to say, but your pointing your fingers, in the wrong direction. As it was pointed out by another person, its all about company profits for the share holders, thats got alot of stock in the company, and the CEO`S trying to line their own pockets.

jh45gun, you made the comment about how well the auto industry built good truck and cars before 1990, and how much longer they lasted, and you are absolutely correct, I ackowledge that also, I`m with you, we are on the same page together on this. However that was built by union members also. That was union built back then too.

It was the beginning of the end for good cars and trucks after 1990, because thats when the CEO`s started ordering cheaper parts, made in China :( . most of the cars parts are built from material from outside the U.S.A. GET THE POINT NOW. its the company, the CEO`S, not the union.
If you are on the assembly line putting these vehicles together, you use the parts the company ordered. The unions have nothing to do with it.

You have a point about the parts you can only do as good as what you have to work with I will agree with that but I has been a documented fact about the cars being built on T, W, T better than those built on M or F.

You got it right here.  It's not the unions or the workers fault that the parts are failing causing numerous RECALLS every year.  The buying public is getting tired of having to take their brand new cars back to the dealers to have them repaired to make them safe to drive down the road.  Doesn’t it make you feel safe to know that while driving a mountain road that the tie rod on your brand new vehicle could break sending over the side of the road?  Or that your vehicle could bust into flames because of a faulty fuel line connection?  Lawdog

My F-150 sits outside everynight in -40 and -50 degree weather, instead of being in the garage.  Why?  I don't want my house to burn because of the problem with the cruise control.  Got a letter last month finally to bring it in and they will disconnect it.  It will be later next year before the dealer gets the parts to make repairs.  They have known about this problem for years, but did not do anything till forced to do so in court.  Any wonder why my next truck will be a Honda.

Oh yea, This peice of junk (F-150 4X4) claiming to be americian, is almost all metric and was built in Canada.  Metric tools are required to do any work on it.
