Contender Ignition Problems
« on: December 28, 2005, 05:00:18 AM »
I had a Contender that worked flawlessly with a 10" .357 barrel, firing thousands of rounds with no problems.

Then I got a custom Bullberry .223 barrel and had tons of ignition problems.  Misfires, light strikes, etc.  Had every dog and his brother look at it, and one gunsmith said it had excessive headspace, causing the misfires because the rounds were not supported against the blow of the firing pin, but were driven further into the chamber.

I sent the barrel back to Bullberry and they said headspace was OK.

What do I do now?  Is Bullberry jerking me around?

Has anyone else had ignition prob's with the Contender?

Should I have limited my use to rimmed cartridges such as .357, etc?

Looks like no one took a stab at this one.  I'll at least honor it with a response.  I haven't known Fred Smith at Bullberry's for very long, but what I do know about him is that he's NOT one to jerk you around.  Did you send the reciever with the barrel to Bullberry's to take a look at it?  He knows the problems that folks have with them probably better than TC.  I don't know if this is your answer, but Fred mentioned that if the locking lugs are'nt fully engaged then there's some sort of safety plate(not the right word for the thing) that gets in the way of the hammer falling and does'nt allow it to hit with full force.  It might be in the reciever part of the equasion.
Let us know more details of what you've done and what other folks have said.

I have to snap the frame/barrel shut hard with my .375 JDJ barrel or I get light strikes occasionally. All other barrels are fine. As long as I snap it shut with a little authority, the problem goes away.

I have a G2 and all barrels are factory, some new some old.

Good shooting,
Brian

Brian,

Same as the prior post.  The locking lugs on the barrel do not match the frame, OR, the brass is not sized correctly.   Check some of the other threads for resolutions.
