Know any more info on these, particularly affordable barrel sources?  I'm approaching the point of being ready to do such a thing myself.

I would look at Pac-Nor barrels, not cheap but not nearly as expensive as some.
If you don't have a favorite gunsmith, check with Kirby Allen, one of the
best Gunsmith's in the Nation in my view & his prices are like a local Smith. He re-chambered a Sendero for me from 25-06 to 25-06AI, skim-
bedded it, trued rec., installed a Holland Titanium recoil lug & re-crowned
it. It is now a 1/4" gun with very near .257Wea. Performance. His E-mail is kballen@3rivers.net

I have a 7mm rum and love it. I dropped a caribou at 300 yards like nothing a while back in Canada. I have been noticing that the ammo is scarce as of late though, when I bought the rifle a couple of years ago it was everywhere. now when the local stores get it in it's only one ot two boxes at a time.

Being that i am a huge RUM fan I wouldn'tbe suprised to see 10 years from now that they might drop one.  But the good thing is they will still make ammo for awhile.  They haven't chambered the 8mm mag in i don't know how long and still make ammo for it.  So I guess IMO if they stopped making rifles in this chamber who cares as long as ammo is made. :D
