Author Topic: 40 Gr. Vmax vrs. Nosler Ballistic Tip(NBT) in .223 Handi (Read 518 times)

Does anyone have an opinion regarding the best of the subject bullets in a Handi? The Vmax's are allot cheaper but in my bolt action .223 BRNO I've always used the NBT with good success. The Vmax's have a shorter ogive and a longer bearing surface so I would expect less of a tendency to pitch and yaw in a less than smooth barrel(maybe). Has anyone made a comparison of the two in their Handi?

Hey I am new here, but I am having good results from the 50 gr. NBT on top of 26 grains of Benchmark

Not handloads, but the Ultramax reman 40gr NBT shoot almost as good as the win white box ammo in mine and several others, FWIW.

My Handi definitely likes the V-MAXs better than the Noslers. Mine is an older (1990 ish) that doesn't have as long a throat as the newer ones. I seat the 40 gr V-Max about .010 off the rifling. Using CCI mag primers and H-335 I get 1/2" groups at 100 metres. Handis have a lot of individual personality and they all like something different. It takes a bit of experimenting to find what works.

Can't comment on the Handi, but V-Maxs are just a hair more accurate in my Savage bolt gun, not by much but noticable none the less.

My Handi's like the moly 40 gr. Vmax's and my Ruger 220 Swift likes the NBT's best. Digger
