460 scope bases and rings
« on: January 02, 2006, 01:37:29 PM »
I just picked up a S&W 460 8 3/8ths barrel and was wondering what bases you guys are using.  Is the the warne base and ring combo from S&W with the detachable rings worth the $150 and do the rings hold up to the recoil.  I am looking for options.  Thanks

I'm a huge fan of Jack Weigand scope bases and rings...I have two of his scope mounts and their workmanship is excellent and the mounts are rock solid.  When I purchase a 460 I will have a Weigand mount on it with three or four Weigand scope rings...I have nothing to do with Weigand I am just a big fan if his scope mounts and rings...

Here's an example of the S&W Weigand scope rail:

WNY_Whitetailer is right, the Weigand mount and rings are very good. I had the weaver mounts on my 8-3/8 460 Mag before I traded it up for the PC model which came with scope mounts. I am using Leupold rings.  :D

wise choice with the wiegand base. get their rings too they are SUPERIOR to any others.
when i first got my 460 the wever bases wern't available in steel so i put on an aluminum BIG MISTAKE - DON'T DO IT. the recoil lug in back pened and all the screws sheared off. scope hit forehead then ground.
weigand mount was removed to return revolver to s&w to have custom shop do a trigger job on it. when re-installed it was dead on at 200 yards, litterally not an inch off.
best mount on any gun i own
put em where you want em

I think you are talking about a 460 in an Encore barrel, he is looking at the S&W 460 Mag.  :D
