Author Topic: New Trigger for S&W 686 (Read 562 times)

I'm looking to have a wider target-type trigger installed on my S&W 686. I'm not looking to reduce the pull weight, it is great already. But I would like something a little bigger, as my finger gets irritated from squeezing into the trigger's tight curve after a busy day. I want it to be slightly wider to help give better leverage and more control. Anyone know of a good brand to get? Any chance in ability to install it myself without the need to pay a gunsmith? My experience in triggers is limited to simple "drop-ins" like my Ruger Hornet and Savage Accu-Triggers.

The S&W "L" frame revolvers have the added benefit of sharing triggers and grips with the popular "K" frame series.

A target K frame trigger should be a drop-in fit with little or no fitting to time it properly. This is assuming, of course, that you install a trigger for a six-shot gun into another six-shot gun.

JohnT is right on the money. I'm ussure if the aftermarket triggers even exist for the S&W revolvers. Usually they are just slicked up S&W triggers. If you can strip the rebolber installing a trigger is fairly simple..

Thanks for the responses guys. What I might do is give S&W a call and ask them about their triggers. Maybe they could give me a couple secret outlets that sells (specializes) in S&W triggers. My mother has a Taurus 357 with an excellent trigger job. It has the wider trigger, and darn it, it feels just great! I'm a little jealous, but thats the way it goes. IMO, the Taurus she has looks very similar to my 686, so that is why I wondered about aftermarket triggers.

Mine is a 7-shot. I guess it is safe to assume that kind of trigger swap wouldn't work properly? As I said, I'm not too knowledgable when it comes to these kinds of triggers altogether. But I do follow rules and instructions by the book, so my chances of messing something up are reduced. :lol:

Brownells sells S&W parts including the wide target style triggers. Give them a call. I have altered several S&W triggers by slightly opening the curve of the trigger and polishing away the serations. This is my preference for DA shooting. It's fairly easy to accomplish and really makes the trigger more comfortable. Wide triggers never felt right to me when double action shooting. I guess it depends on how you use your piece.
