Help Catching Mink
« on: January 16, 2006, 05:47:56 PM »
I am a new trapper, have been trapping for about two or three weeks.  I have cought 4 coons and 3 muskrats and I really want to catch my first mink.  Now I am 16 and do not have a vehicle yet and live in Northern Missouri.  Gilman City, Missouri which is in Harrison County to be exact.  I seen this one website that said mink are not as common around northern missouri as they are in other parts of missouri, but I here of local trappers catching them from time to time.

Ofcourse they normally catch them accidentally in coon sets, because as far as I know there are no mink trappers in my area.  Now where I live I only have a one creek within walking distance and have not seen any mink tracks, but theres no snow on the ground and only a few places with mud on the ground to see and I really can't spot a mink track that easy.  So I really don't know where to begin.

Now my plan is to try and locate some mink tracks and set some 1 1/2" Coilsring Dukes in blind sets w/ loose pans and try to catch a mink.  What I was wondoring is if on like the creek or in any of the ditches if there was anyway I could catch a mink w/ any of my 110s.  And if so what are they and just any other information would be awsome if I could have it.  Now I know I am not going to catch a dozen mink on this creek or anything, but I just hope that I can catch my first mink.  There are also two ponds right around this creek that I am allowed to trap and I have cought two muskrats in one of them in muskrat dens and in the other I know some local trappers caught lots of muskrats out of one and two beavers and was wondoring if these ponds were somehow a place I could catch mink.

Please help. I would really appreciate it.
