Encore's in NY
« on: October 17, 2005, 04:06:44 PM »
I went to pick up a new Encore pistol in Alaska today and while I was waiting on the BATF trying to explain to the clerk that the form she had was old and that new ones were required but they had not sent them out yet, I noticed on the box "Not For Sale in NY, Republic of Mass., Commifornia, and I think New Jerky."

Is it true, you can't buy an Encore in New York any more?

Not true!!  I live in Southwestern NY near the PA border and have hunted with a T/C/Encore 7mm-08 with 15" barrel and scope for four years.  See Encores for sale on a regular basis in numerous gun stores including the large chains such as Gander Mountain and Dick's.  It is almost impossible to buy a handgun of any kind or obtain a pistol permit to buy in NEW YORK CITY.  Perhaps that was what the message on the box was all about.

I will read the message again tomorrow when the firearms dealer gets the correct BATF forms.

I bought my first Contender back in the early 80's in Syracuse.  With Hitlery and Schulmer there anything could happen to the firearms laws.  I don't know why you could not buy a handgun in NYC as long as you had a permit.

As OLDHUNTER said, Encore's are very common here in NY!

Is the Encore you're getting something special?
Some special chambering or anything else, such as a non-standard custom job!

The message on the box might have said "Not for sale in NY City"!
The regulations are a little different down there!

Good luck with your Encore!

I think this is more of a factory thing, and has to do with the state requirement of having a fired cartridge with every new handgun sold in New York State

RCL,

Yeh, and that law is the biggest farce going. Just another way to make it more trouble and costly for LAW-ABIDING people. Politicians usually grasp at straws and this one of them. Common sense and politics have nothing in common, especially in NY state.

Must be

It must be that the gun needs to be sold with a spent cartridge.  The box just lists the four states and no cartridge in  the box.  Maybe, maybe.....to save money, TC only fires a few for selling in those states and all others can be sold everywhere else.

What is to prevent a person from polishing the end of the firing pin a bit after receipt of the gun thusly voiding the spent cartridge?  Or did Shulmer not think of this one?

Dumb, dumb law.

"Chuck the Shmuck" doesn't think about anything except getting re-elected. His constituency is genetically pre-disposed to be incapable of any rational thought. But I would recommend polishing the chamber, and lapping the barrel of one of these guns, because I know they weren't smart enough to think about that before this stupid law was passed. Don't forget, our great "Republican" governor supported, and signed this worthless "feel-good" bill.

Yeah, what a joke about the cartridge with the Encore or Contender in NY.  They are very popular with the homeboys - they rob banks with a single shot 15" Encore or a 14" Contender .223 all of the time.  I heard TC is coming out with the option of a "ghetto sight" so that they can hold their Contender sideways when they shoot so they can look way bad  !
