What Tec do you guys use????

Well I have been yote and fox hunting for about 7-8 years now and have used about five diferent tecniques what do you guys use
1) Night time with calls and a spot light _+ decoys
2) day with calls + decoys
3) day with no calls
4) day or night with out calls but with bait
5) this is my favorite
Doing a push like you would for deer, We use about 5 guys we have 2-3 shooters and 2-3 pushers everyone with a gun, we do this in a well populated area and just walk through an area and they run out everywhere then it like wwIII yotes droppin everywhere
I have killed more this way in a week than i have with all the others put together
Last weekend we killed 5 and should have killed about 12-15 we have couple of bad shooters, i hope you guys will try this method if you dont already use it

The Coyote is an opportunist that is looking for an opportunity!
You will read about this in the newspaper now & again when the yotes are dining on house pets in the suburbs.
I have not participated in any roundup but prefer to call them in on a one on one basis. It is as good (IMO) as seeing a deer come down the trail if not better. Especially if there is two of them!

well that is my second favorite thing to do it is also a rush
this weekend the yote are no where to be found it is way to hot here we onlg saw 4 no were killed the temp was in the mid 50s

Yea, we inherited your outside temperature (or vise versa) I can barely walk out there for all the mud now.

Yea it is pretty bad here but is suppost to be getting colder agian
So i hope the dogs go back to the thickets again
It is really hard to walk when you only weigh 155 and you are packing 50lbs of mud on your boots

Glanceblamm, We have had 50 to 65 mile an hour wind for the last week and a half. Peoples roofs have been airborn and its also blowing cars and trucks off the road. The Coyotes are growing fingers like monkeys to hang onto the brush. Been dying to put some lead in the air but I am kinda scared to shoot for fear the bullet will turn around and come after me. Don't know which is worse Mud or wind. Catch ya later..........Joe..........

I have a question: Do you have a place that you can order replacement reeds for the hand held calls Like the Circe, Lohman, and some of the others?? I have a hand full of old calls that i have Accumulated and would like to get the things back in shape, Some times i like to use them more than the electronic callers. Tried the inernet without success. See ya around...........Joe............

I dont have a sorce in the universal sense for ordering replacement reeds.
Some of the manufactures (at least Burnham bros) will send replacements.
Ladobe could probably help out a bunch here. Would probably be worth sending him a PM. Look on page two of this forum with the post being

I have ruined a few reeds trying to clean them w/crocus cloth, razor blades & the like. They usually have oxidation and or light rust on them which chokes off the note as you are well aware of.
My latest technique has been to put just one drop of penitrating oil on the
reed every couple hr throughout a day with the reed held in the vertical position. I then let it air dry then blow just enough compressed air through it to clean up the residue. Have had good luck so far.

Another option might be to try some Electrical Contact Cleaner which may or may not crumble the thin oxidation layer.

Problem is, They don't have any voices in them, Some of them are at least 35 years old and the reeds have been taken out. It used to be you could pick reeds up at any sporting goods store but them days are gone.
Oh well its not like I don't have more calls, Adios.......Joe........

Thanks Buckmaster_KP and welcome to GBO, I do appreciate the info. You used to be able to go to any sporting goods store and buy replacement reeds but that was 30 to 40 years ago, things have changed and i have failed to keep up with the progress, Thanks again and have a good day   ..............Joe.................

Starting now till 3/4 thru Feb should be prime coyote hunting in my area. All of my old dog hunter buddies are now snow birds down south, the less fortunate play pitch in the tavern. Normally we would hunt after a fresh snow of 4"-6". Here in Iowa we have many farm to market roads, one every mile, so its a grid. You drive around looking for tracks, tracks in no tracks out of the section=dog. In the last few years at this time the weather has not contributed to that type of hunt. It was 40 today hardly any snow cover and the wind is gusting 25+ and it may rain latter on. I stand a better chance of scoring a "song dog" on the interstate with my truck.
