Author Topic: Fitting a Sims Limbsaver to a wood stock? (Read 444 times)

Hi everyone,
I just got my T/C Walnut Thumbhole stock in with a Sims Limbsaver butt pad. I went to put it on, but its too large for the wood and has to be fitted (sanded) to the stock.
I've never fooled around with a Limbsaver and would like to know if any of you out there has had any work done to one. I'd hate to mess it up! Any comments are appreciated............

I bought mine that was made for the Walnut stick. I tried on a different set up to sand a recoil pad down, but it did not look as good as one that cam made for the specific stock.

Is it a pre-fit? If so I believe they are meant NOT to be sanded. They have "grind to fit" models for this purpose. I would suggest having a gunsmith do it. You could do it yourself, but you need a few pieces of equipment and there is too little room for error, lest your new stock gets chewed up.

Without a doubt I would have a gunsmith do the work, even though I have everything available to do it myself. I've put a few on years ago (when I was young and naive).

The limbsaver I put on the synthetic stock was a perfect fit. When I ordered the thumbhole from Midsouth, I told them to check and make sure it was a good fit. Apparently, they didn't take it out of the box. But, I have to applaud them for expediting the shipment. Bad as I hate to, guess I'll shoot without it until I return from my hunting trip after Christmas. I just don't believe this limbsaver would look very good after being sanded.

Now here's the kicker...the one they sent me for the wooden stock (which states it is for a wooden stock) fits perfectly on my synthetic stock. The one for the synthetic is exactly the same size. Hmmmmmmmm......

kgillard, I ordered my Sims Limbsaver for my walnut stock from Natchez. They have a different part number than the ones for the synthetic stock. The one on my walnut stock fits great. I did not put one on my thumbhole stock though.

You definitely have a wrong pad
I have on on my synthetic and one for my wood
they definitely are different both are perfect fit
no sanding needed

Well, it appears that I'll have to put on one of the "grindable" types. When I drop my gun off to KDF in Seguin, TX for a muzzle brake, I'll check to see if the can just go ahead and put the right Limbsaver on there also.

The T/C walnut thumbhole stock that I have is 4-7/8" x 1-9/16". I'm sure Midsouth Shooters Supply will send the right replacement; they've been great to work with and have bent over backwards to help. So, if any of you are just thumbing around the net, drop a line to Milly at Midsouth and tell her hi!
