Long Range Encore Caliber

I'm looking for a long range (out to 400 yards or so) whitetail deer caliber for my encore.  I've been leaning towards a 7mm Rem Mag, or 300 Win Mag.  Any first hand input on those calibers in an encore would be appreciated.  Any input on custom barrels/custom calibers also appreciated.

I own the 7mm mag and have taken deer out to 300 plus yards. I handload my own rounds which helps in the accuracy. My rifle is the Encore ss 26 inch heavy contour barrel with a Leupold 4 x 12 scope. Hopes this helps...

I had a 300 Win Mag and it was a great 300 yards to 400 yard gun. But when I went to Alaska I opted to take my Tikka in 300 win mag. I just wanted that second or third round there, although it was not need. I had a 300 yard plus one shot kill.  :-D  :D

Read an article in Shooting Times a while back and Layne Simpson had bought a custom shop 6mm-06 for is Encore.  Used if for long range antelope hunting.  He worked up a bunch of loads and it is listed in the caliber chart on Fox Ridge's site.

I have started carrying my Encore in 30-06, since my 30-06 NEF got stolen.  I use a 165 gr Sierria boattail traveling at 2980 fps.  So far this winter I have taken two wolves, one at 270 yrds and the second was 530 yrds.  They are as big as a Whitetail doe.  I will be carrying this combo this winter looking for Caribou.  Shots are expected to be anywhere from 200 to 600 yrds.  Caribou are twice the size of Whitetails, and I have had no trouble knocking them down with one shot at 500 yrds with a 30-06.  I'm -12 inches at 400 yrds, and -32 inches at 500 yrds.  That's sighted in for 300 yards with an 8X32X40 scope.
