Can you convert the 10/22 from a 22lr to a 22wmr. I've seen the barrels for the 22mag but I know nothing about the possiability of a barrel change. How difficult is it?

It can and has been done but I would not reccomend it as the receiver has to be cut back for the longer magazine to fit and the receiver on a factory 22 mag is beefed up where a stock one would not be. By the time you get done altering a stock 22 and buying the 22 mag barrel you might just as well buy the mag version and save your self some headaches. I have seen this talked about on one of the 22 forums and you could search them and see but I still do not reccomend it as a viable option. The guy that  did it made it work but I think it would be a so/so job at best. Jim

Thanks for the advise. Nothing is ever cheap or easy. I was curious since you see all of the barrels ect. around for conversions. What you say make sense.

I think the biggest thing about a conversion is that the factory opted to make a stronger more beefed up version of the receiver for the magnum round so even if you made a standard receiver work how long would it last? I know my Henry lever is made out of a alloy but it must be stronger than the aluminum used in the 10/22's and I if I remember correctly the mag receiver is not aluminum. Jim

duxman, Ron left a post here stating the mag receiver was steel and the gun around 350 and reccommended to buy new. That said Ron I moved your post to classified's because greybeard's forums does not allow advertising on the forums unless it is in the classified section. I moved it to the classified traders duxman you can look at his info there. Jim
