do i need to clean it out of the barrel before shooting ??

I really like bore butter. I just run one dry patch down the barrel to clean the excess out.

Me too! I've been using BB since it was first created by Ox-Yoke in the Wonderlube 1000 form, great stuff!! I've even used it on cartridge guns a time or 3, I prefer the pine scented better than the Ben Gay linament scent!!

I agree with Quick ( :wink: ). I also use the Pine scented Bore Butter in the green tube. I works great on both ML's and cartridge guns. The Ox Yoke factory is in Milo Maine and only about 11 miles north of my camp. I have visited there and was shown around by the guy who originally fired over 1000 shots out of a T/C muzzleloader using the then new and experimental lube, soon after to be named after that experiment. I got to handle the gun he used and saw the indoor range where it was done. You used to be able to buy products right there at the factory but that has been stopped in deference to local merchants who sold the stuff I guess. The factory wanted the sales to go to the merchants. All in all, it's GREAT stuff....<><.... :grin:

Ox-Yoke was in financial ruin recently and closed down, Rightnour Mfg bought them and is now running full production of their products, so it's here to stay, hopefully. :wink:

Used it on one of my muzzleloaders and have seen no deer since while hunting with it?
That stuff stinks and now my gun smells like it. Tried to clean
it off completely from the bore using Hoppe's and it made a Black glaze
in the bore ... I do not think I will ever use it again on anything I hunt with... Maybe that is why the company went out of business in the first place.

Back in my patched ball days I always used Bore Butter. Never seemed to bother any deer I shot. Maybe the deer thought it was some kind of food because two of them were shot at less than 10 yards.

Heh heh, with that logic, must be the reason Winchester is on the way out!!

None of the deer I've killed while using it ever knew the difference!! :wink:

I keep a couple of patches with it on them in a pill bottle while hunting to clean and swab barrel after a shot. Last year shot a buck cleaned barrel and reloaded and accidently dropped a patch with it to the ground. Had doe come by and smelled it, she got nervous a little then walked up and smelled all over it, it was the standard yellow bottle type. Its not a predator smell its just a smell they are not accustom too. She was just curious when she smelled it. I was just 5yds away up 12' in tree maybe they should sell as a cover scent. lol! :wink:

I don't worry about cleaning out the bore butter, I just load the gun and shoot it. It has never affected accuracy or failed to fire.

I have a Lyman Plains Pistol and a TC Renegade that I first shot using Pyrodex in the late 80's - early 90's. I cleaned them with TC's #13 bore cleaner, followed by some Bore Butter. I was transferred a couple of times with my job, and never got around to shooting these guns again until a year or two ago. I was a little afraid of what I'd find in the bores - as nothing else was ever done to them. After wiping out the bores, they looked perfect. I have no complaints about Bore Butter. :grin:
