drop in parts??

where can i find some drop in parts for my rock island armory??
im wanting a beavertail grip safety, a commander/skeletal hammer, extended slide release and a lightweight trigger.
i have a brownells catalog just havent had time to go thru it but i would bet it is all in there right??
 :grin:
also im wanting something better/different in grips
i kinda like the feel of hogue wrap around grips with finger grooves
but i would also kinda like the look of stags on the parkerized gun
any ideas??

Does your receiver have an existing .250" radius curve at the thumb safety?  you will need to know that first for the beavertail grip safety.  A spur hammer wont work with the beavertail safety, which you probably know that.

You can score some good stuff on eBay too for 1911 parts.  I got my Chip McCormick Extreme beaver tail and skeletonized hammer there for both under $40 shipped.

first beware there is really no such thing as drop in parts. Ive seldom seen anything that dropped in a 1911 without some fitting. My last big mistake was drop in trigger jobs. After fighting the parts for hours i finally gave up and just tuned the old parts.

sureshot2040:  as Lloyd said, they might not be 'drop-in parts' but may need some 'fitting'.  That being said, get a new hammer and trigger group from Chip McCormick and get a beavertail grip safety from Kings, unless you can get one from McCormick - all those parts dropped into my Springer without the need for fitting.  Then I got an Ed Brown 'drop-in' barrel which managed to drop in without fitting (I was one lucky basement gunsmith those days, lemme tellya).  Get the slide release from Brownells - and it is right there in the catalog, and so might the grips you're looking for.  HTH.  Mikey.

The more i research into a 1911/1911a1 kit build pistol the more i learn there are no "drop in parts".  Everything has to be checked and fitted properly. But we do get lucky but maybe thats the first one to get us hooked?  Like my first barrel change went perfect it was too easy because my second barrel setup is a tough one so no two are alike.

Brownells carries King parts.  They have to be "fitted" a little.  Nothing on these "Drops" in  But man o man can you get parts to COSTOMIZE the 1911

I have a RIA 38 Super, 45acp will be the same, the Grip-Safety is .220.  I ordered mine through S&A at http://www.smithandalexander.com/gripsafety.html  Be sure to get the fitting guide jig, installation went well for this basement smith with basic tools.  I know you mentioned drop-in parts but for the cost of the jig and your time the result can be superior.  Good Luck.

Naw I'd never go for it. I just struggled putting a lamp together for my wife. If it was not for my large vocabulary of words not be heard by the grand children, it would not have worked. No way do I mess with my Colt 1911 series 70. It goes to Osceola,Ia for any work. Had to post as the handle of the original poster, and proximity are telling. This Smith is a master of the 1911.

Since drop in parts have already been addressed, I'll coment on the stag grips on a 1911. I love the look of stag on a 1911. I have some panels made by Ajax that are from The Sambar deer, they are made thin, and they are smooth and yellow from being around so long. Also had Eagle send me some American Elk horn grips, these are thicker, and also good looking. My SA milspec looks good to me with those smooth yellowed stag grips on it.  I never cared for the wrap arounds myself, but all that is personal prefrence. I found that my shirt would sometimes hang up on the soft rubber grips, and get stuck on them if I bent over or something, so I went to smooth grips.  I don't think you would be disapointed if went with stag...they look neat.
