I currently have an old tc percussion that Im thinking of converting to flint.
Are the locks interchangable? Can I get away with a GM IBS flint barrel, and have everything line up?
Anyone do this?
Thanks,
kb
I've converted 4 or 5 OK...yes, there is some minor inletting you usually have to do inside the lock mortise to get the flint lock assembly to drop in.
And...even using TC's own Flint barrels there's some risk you won't get proper alignment in all caplock Hawkens...I have one that I cannot convert because there's enough variance in tolerances that the touch hole in a TC Flint barrel is all the way back at the rear edge of the pan, yet the caplock and cap barrel fit perfectly.
Majority of the time they seem to convert, but there's always a chance one won't every now and then.
The first one I converted, I let TC's Fox Ridge shop convert it for me...(800-243-4570)...mailed the stock to them, bought the lock and a 1:66" round ball barrel from them, and they did the fitting for me at no charge.
