Forends and accuracy?

Has anyone else noticed this.  1st all my stocks and forends are syn. I have the normal forend, huntsman and fluted varmit with adj bipod. The normal forend is floated to end if I shoot at or behind forned screw good accuracy as soon as i rest in front of screw my shots start going high and group opens. With varmit forend my barrel rest on end of forend with some pressure fully tighted. I get good groups no matter were I rest even in front of screw. Although point of impact changes switching forends about 2''. With bipod I do get a little better groups with bipod at back of track which puts it slightly behind screw but not much differents. With huntsman forend same as varmit my barrel touches forend at end with some pressure fully tightened and groups same as varmit great even when I go a little in front of screw. So in a nut shell with floated forend my gun is much more inconsistant. Its the opposite of what I expected. All groups are 1'' until I go infront of screw with floated forend. All using 308 and no o-ring. I'm very happy with groups just curious about why it shoots better with the pressure on barrel.  Any thoughts?

I think it just depends on the rifle, each is different and what works on one, doesn't necessarily work on another. This is probably all dependent on how good the fit of the barrel to the frame is and the lockup. I've used pressure points on a mannlicher forend to improve accuracy, others have done the same with the regular forend using business cards. Fully bedding seems to work also, as at least a few members have found, but that dedicates the forend to that barrel. My fluted .22-250 doesn't shoot well at all from the bipod regardless of the position, but it shoots fine with a rest under the hinge.

I've experimented with a shim between the spacer and the wood forend, it usually it helps, but not always.

In the end when all is said and done, do what works, but start out of the box with no changes, then do what's necessary.

I've found that all my Handi's that I have with the Choate Varmit stock and forend, and the ones I have installed with the Choate all shot better than my Handi's without it.
