Corbin S Press
« on: March 15, 2003, 07:16:11 PM »
Donna,  I will start swaging bullets soon and have a question. Is the bullet swaged in the bottom of the press or the top side of the press on the swaging stroke?  Maybe I'm not explaining it right, do you place the jacket in the bottom or top of the 2 dies?  I don't have my dies yet and am new to swaging so I don't have anything to look at to tell how it is set up. I have ordered a swaging setup from Corbin.
One more question, how do you apply the lube using a Tumbler?
            Thanks   Bill

How does the dies work in the press?

Hello TCR MAN and all out there, :D

Congratulations on becoming a new swagger.

The internal punch is inserted into the die body then, that whole assembly is screwed into the top part of the ram, where the case would go in reloading, and the external punch gets screwed into the bottom of the adapter on top of the whole press, where the reloading die would go in a reloading press. The internal punch and the die move upward to mate with the external punch. Bullets swaging is a very s*xy operation. You will place the materials into the die, you are only working with one die at a time, through the, so-called, top of it.

I have a big plastic salsa jug that I put all my stuff in to be lubed and squirt a small amount of swaging lube in it and mix things up a bit. If you use a tumbler or vibrate case cleaner it is the same thing, just make sure that the container is only used for swaging lube only.

If you have not done so yet, I would suggest that you order the swaging book set and give them a read over two or three times, it will help.

Donna :)

APPLYING LUB

SOMETHING THAT MAKES THE LUB GO ON EASIER IS TO HEAT IT UP TO ABOUT 120 DEG F THIS IS WHERE IT LOOKS LIKE A LIGHT OIL AND IS A LIQUID.    I USE A COFFEE CUP WARMER PLATE.   I DO NOT DRINK COFFEE BUT HAVE ENDED UP WITH SEVERAL CUPS OVER THE YEARS.   I FOUND ONE A LITTLE LARGER THAN THE PINT BOTTLES DAVE OR RICHARD SELL THERE LUB IN AND PUT A SHOP RAG AROUND THE PLASTIC BOTTLE ( KIND OF LIKE A DOUBLE BOILER FOR COOKING CANDY) AND IT DOES A VERY NICE JOB OF HEATING THE LUB UP.   THEN JUST SQUIRT A SHOT ON THE CORES  OR SEATED UNITS SHAKE IT UP IN SOMETHING ( I HAVE A 3 LB COFFEE CAN THE WORKS GOOD ) AND YOU ARE OFF AND RUNNING LIKE A HEARD OF TURTLES.    AS YOU PUT THE CORES OR CUPS IN THE PRESS ROLL THEM AROUND IN THE HAND TO HELP SPREAD THE LUB EVENLY.   THIS WILL HELP OUT QUITE A BIT.    ANOTHER THING MAKE SURE YOU WASH YOUR HANDS 2 OR THREE TIMES THE LUB IS A DIARRHEIC AND IT WILL GIVE YOU A CASE OF THE TROTS.  I SPEAK FROM EXPERIENCE.

HAVE FUN AND GOOD LUCK
