Dang, it worked :-D  :-D  :-D  Thanks Tim.  Only took 4 years and around $900 dollars in new computer/camera/ etc.  Here's a couple more shots showing the forend and the Butt.  Keep in mind the barrel/receiver are 14 years old

Yeap. That is one beautiful stock my friend. I too am partial to a dark red tint.
It's what I redone my M-39 in. Though the grain isn't nearly as nice. :agree:

Thanks guys.  The tint comes from mixing Fieblings oxblood and dark brown alchohol based leather dyes. Got them from Shieffield's Knifemaker's Supply.  Since I had cut off the pistol grip, I a scrap of wood to play with as far as getting the colour right.  After I applied the dye to the warm wood, I warmed the wood with a hair dryer on HI first, I waited two days and then applied two coats of Watco's Teak Oil. Teak Oil  is a marine oil finish developed for use on dense woods such as teak and mahogany.  It's been my standard finish on both knives and rifle stocks for years now.  Really penetrates and brings out the figure.  Waited another 2 days for it to REALLY dry and then waxed with MinWax.  Nice satin finish that way.  I took those pics after I'd been carrying it for two days hunting deer(shot a doe.......let the buck go). I hadn't re-polished it, just wiped the snow off.

The barrel band is an old Williams that was originally for a Savage 24V.  It was too small, so I had to open it up using a dremel and a 3/4" sanding drum.  Uncle Mike's (Michaels of Oregon)makes a number of barrel bands; and I believe so does Brownell's. Somewhere there's a post at the NEF centerfire forum that talks about the right size.  Easiest thing to do, really, is measure the barrel diameter at the point where you want to put the swivel, and go to one of those two sites and see what diameters they offer that are as close as possible.  Unless you're handy with a dremel(or a big round file).  The Uncle Mike's barrel band I have on my sawed off NEF 12 guage and the new one I put on the Savage 24V(that took 12 years) is actually much nicer than the Williams.....but you have to buy the whole swivel set; which was $29.95 last year.
