I have tried Nosler partitions, Nosler ballistic tips, Hornady and Barnes X. I got the best results and accuracy with the Barnes X 165 gr. bullets. I took a nice Caribou in Alaska with it at 300 yards.  :D

Mine doesn't like 150gr bullets, factory or reloads. It seems to prefer heavyweights. 190gr bullets work pretty good. Speer 180 gr round nose bullets shoot under 1" when loaded in front a good dose of H4831sc.

I walked into Big 5 a few years ago and bought 6 boxes of 180gr Winchester failsafes at $13. a box ,they have worked well and will use them until gone. I have 300 brass sized, trimmed and primmed ready for some 165gr Hornady SSTs or Barnes triple shock.

i do appreciate all the info, trying to find the rite combo is alot of fun but man it can get costly.. im just a poor ole farm boy that has to save $ when i can..
i picked up a box of 180 core-lokt the other day when i bought my 45-70 guide gun, i will post how they worked when i get out back and give them a try..( it was the only box of shells for the 300 win in town ) of course it was the day after christmas and the stock was about dried up in this 1 horse town...
thanks again..jeff.
