Details?
It was taken at 30 yds with a charge of 60 grains of 2F and a ball I cast myself. It weighed about 160 lbs.  It was taken near Crane Naval Weapons Depot in Indiana.

Congrat's 8)
When you spoke of 60gr FF & a ball that you cast, I came up with that big .490 that a .50cal uses.
I don't remember the ballistics but this would arguably be one of the most powerfull handguns on this forum. :D

powerful for a black powder gun but i beleive a .50 round ball is only 175 grain and i doubt if velocity out of the shot barrel was much over 1200fps so it would put it at about 357 power  but a hell of a trophy for a black powder handgun non the less congradulations to him.

Knew it would be arguable :)
That ball is 175gr but at .490 I look at it as being pre-expanded. The soft lead also mushrooms well all while staying together.

I do admit to being overly optimistic in my first post as I was used to seeing the patched ball work in the rifle with velocitys a tad over 1,850fps.
I still think the pistol w/60gr is somewhat more powerful than a .357 but equivalent to a ??
Range is a big factor as there is nothing worse than a ball unless it would be a cube.
I should have limited my statement to 60yds or under. I look at my rifle as being a 100yd weapon. :D

i doubt if velocity out of the shot barrel was much over 1200fps

That is about what we expected. We ran it over the chrono repeatedly and the velocity low was 1480. The high was 1540 fps. We were 10' away from the screen so I don't think granules could have been triggering the chrono. Maybe someone who has a BP pistol could try it on their chrono?
