New guy needs advice. Sidekick/Omega
« on: December 28, 2005, 02:51:33 PM »
Gentleman

I am extremely new to muzzleloading.  I have been a strict bowhunter for the last 12 years and have never muzzleloaded.  A friend has recently turned me on to it.  I am a little shy about spending the big dollars on some of these guns in the fear I won't use it much, like I said, ate up bowhunter.  But, I got a pretty good deal at hand.

I have narrowed down to two guns.  The sidekick and the Omega.  I like everything I have read about the sidekick, love the price, so if I don't like it or don't use it all that much, I'm not out a fortune, but I called 14 Wally Worlds today and 5 other dealers and no one had them.

The Omega on the other hand is owned by a guy I know who has shot it 10 times to sight it in, bought it 3 months ago and is asking $310 for it, it is the laminated/SS model.  Comes with all the powder and bullets he bought, plus papper work and sling.  From what I have read it is a good deal, just can't decide if I want to put that much investment into it.  Double the Sidekick.  DO the T/C hold their value?  Could I make my money back out of the T/C if I decided later it wasn't worth it?

Please give me your feed back.

Thanks in advance

That is a good price for the Omega and you should have no problem with resale. But why is he getting rid of it? Both are good shooting guns. I have a huntsman which is basicly same as sidekick but capable of adding rifle barrels.  And I would put it up against any gun out there as far as accuracy and ease of operation, but if there's nothing wrong with the omega at that price I think I would give it a try. But either way you should come out all right. I too am a die hard BH'er but I have enjoyed ML hunting during gun season for several years now. If I carry a gun to the woods its my huntsman. Goodluck and let us know what you do and how it shoots.
