just like anything else, it depends on the demand in your area.  I found my contender for $325.  In San Antonio, just a couple hours east, you'll see them going for closer to $400.  Encores seem to go for about $50 more than a contender.

Once you get your first set-up, you can find most of the common caliber barrels here or on E-bay for under $150-$175 if you wait for a good buy.

Not really.  Unless you have an FFL, or know someone that will give you a deal on a free transfer, you will have to add about $20 plus shipping on the frame.

Look around locally first for a complete gun first. Then you can shop around and start your collection of barrels.

If you ask in the TC classified section here, you may find someone who realizes there really isn't a need for ALL of those extra frames and barrels they have in their collection.  Especially if someone is looking for their first.

Good luck!

$180-$200 for a used Contender frame and $150-$175 for used Contender pistol barrels would be very good prices.  Add $20-$50 for an Encore.

$150 for frame and $150 for barrel.  $250 for complete gun is good buy.  The barrels for Contenders interchange with Contender Frame.  The Encore barrels fit the Encore frame.  The Contender and Encore do NOT interchange.  Yes, you can have pistol barrels and carbine barrels fit on same frame.  Just don't have rifle butt stock on an frame with a barrel less than 16".

Go buy one.....or two.....or six...
