A friend of mine has one has a marlin guide gun and wants to know what is the max velosity can he push a 300 gr with marlin levels and an 18 inch barrel.

Hornady#3 Book for the 45-70 1895 20" ( ImR 4198 ) 51.2grs =2100 fps

There will be a slight increase in velocity with the 2" longer bbl. Stay safe

Hodgdon #27 has a 2424 fps load for the Marlin 1895 45-70 with the 300 grain Sierra from a 24" barrel. That would be about 2300 fps from a Marlin 1895G.
