A local gun shop was selling the Remington 700 Classic from last year, the 8mm Mauser, for, now get this..... $344.44 New in the box.
My buddy bought the next to the last one he had left.
Wish I could get the last one he has but I really have no need for it.

That seems to be the hardest part...and this year I had new bullets and a new scope to field test on, and it never happened  :(

Sorry, the Classic line was scheduled to stop in 2005.  And it is also obvious that you don't know how it worked.  The orders for the Classic come in before they make the manufacturing run. There is a cut off date. And the units are shipped out in the order that they are received.  They have been successful enough (depending on the chambering) that gun shops often order several to keep as stock items.

Remington has ended production of the Classic. No ifs, ands, or buts. This has been discussed numerous times, with the same dissapointing results. So...

I've got an 8x57 Classic myself, but haven't yet had time to scope it and put it through its paces.  I picked up mine in early 2005 when there were a few on GunsAmerica for $379 shipped.  FWIW & FYI the December (if memory serves) issue of Handloader has an article on the 8x57 700 Classic, complete with load data.  Their results showed the heavier the bullets, the better the accuracy with this caliber.
