Is there any difference between Swift A-fra
« on: January 12, 2006, 09:01:08 AM »
I been doing some research on swift-A-frame bullets (which happen to be JJhack's fav 375 h&h bullets) and found out that the physical structure of the Nosler partition is ALMOST identital to the swift A-frames

they both have the same A-structure from the inside,

What do you guys think ? is this correct ?

Both bullets have a "partition", but that is where all similarity ends!  The Nosler Partition has a relatively "soft" front half and is designed for rapid expansion in order to deliver maximum shock back as far as the partition.  Very often all the lead from the front half of the partition is wiped off the jacket and deposited inside the animal.  After this happens the remainder of the bullet (the back half behind the partition) continues penetrating.  This back half is typically about 50 to 60 % of the original weight and it has now returned to the original size of the bore(or almost anyway.)  On the other hand, the Swift A-Frame, although similar in apparent construction, has a much, much tougher front half.  This bullet will usually mushroom to about double caliber diameter and maintain typically over 90% of its original weight while it continues to penetrate.  Along with great shock, the A-Frame also creates a much larger wound channel, which is critical in dispatching critters who may want to dispatch the shooter.  As in so many of the threads on this and other forums, one needs to match the bullet to the game.

Check out the construction of the Nosler/Winchester Combined Technology Failsafe bullet----more like the Swift than the Partition. :-)  pg

One significant feature that was over looked in the difference. The AFrames have a bonded core construction and the partition does not. You cannot seperate the lead from the jacket on the Aframe unless extrodinary force is applied.

An example of extrodinary force woutl be shooting it into a huge rock or block of steel. I have not yet seen living tissue from any animal up to hippo rhino and elephant in size seperate the lead from the jacket of an Aframe bullet.
