winchester model 190 trigger problems
« on: January 07, 2006, 07:34:18 AM »
I just bought a winchester model 190 22 semi-auto from my buddy that needed some cash.  When I went to fire it the other day I discovered you have to be hercules to pull the trigger.  I have never, ever seen a trigger this heavy.  I have not had time to tear it apart yet.  Do you guys have any words of wisdom or ideas of my problem or how to cure it?  Thanks in advance.

I would bet it's just very dirty. these were cheap 22 when they were made but the triggers are seldom super heavy. they are 22 rimfires and they get very very dirty! Strip it and clean it well and lube only with a dry lube to help limit the collection of blow by residue but oils..

The triggers of the 190's are not easy to tune. It can be done but if you're asking how I advise a trip to a smith.  On the attached parts diagram you may look at the tension provided by the spring numbered 13270. It's the return spring for the trigger..  Stiffness can also be caused by improper angles on the sear hooks and that's often a failing trigger job. It can be fixed but requires thorough knowledge of the job..
