i took my 223 to the range for the first time today. i was mostly just working up loads today but after finding my max i loaded up 5, 50 grain V-max with 27.5 grains of varget ,strange note: this lists as max i the book but my primers were fine, but when i tried BL-c2 with the same bullet my rifle hit max well before the book said so , yet an other reason to work up loads, anyhow i shot a about a 1nch vertical stringing group at 100 yards . gona try a few tricks tonight and see what happens .
as for the looks of the barrel, i love it. the flutes are much deeper then i heard and do their job of cooling the barrel quite well , i was shooting side by side with my 204 bull barrel and this 223 cooled noticeably faster. the barrel also is polished very well and the blueing looks almost black. all i all i'm very happy with this barrel and the first 243 i see i'm buying.
one question i got this barrel from a member so i don't know when the receiver was made but what twist does it have??? i thought i heard somewhere that all 223 fluted barrels where 1-9 but my search couldn't confirm it.
