Dumb question, but aren't those rimmed cartridges intended for double rifles?  If so, I would think that would be an impediment to conversion.

While not impossible it does create problems.  My question is, why do it at all?  Data shows the .458 Win. Mag. equals the performance of the .470 Nitro and the .458 Lott is even more powerful what would be gained by going to a Nitro cartridge?  Lawdog

Thank you for the relpy,
yes I realize they do but I guess I was thinking 500 or 577.  I realize that the nitro isn't trully worth it until 500 at minimum. :D

These aren't exactly Nitro-Express calibers, but American Hunting Rifles does rechamber the CZ-550 for some awfully big rounds.  They show rifles in .600 OK, .500 A-Square, and their own .500 AHR.  I'm sure they work better in a bolt gun than the rimmed Nitro Express rounds.

If you really want something that can shoot a Nitro-Express, you'd probably be better off starting with a Ruger No. 1.

CZ offers the 550 Safari Classic in .404 Jeffery, and .505 Gibbs.  If a .505 won't kill it, it doesn't need to be killed! :D

I should have also added .450 Rigby to that list.

Hi All,

Not all Nitro Express cartridges are huge or rimmed. In 1908 Eley bros helped with the design of the .375  2 1/2" Rimless Nitro Express with Westley Richards. The cartridge was later adopted as the 9.5x57 Mauser and 9.5x56 Mannlicher. There are probably others but this is the one I happen to know the history of after getting a rifle in the chambering some years ago. I traded the rifle off several years ago now as the rifle itself was not exactly what I wanted. :(

i guess i shoould of have been more specific.  I guess what meant is 500, 577, 600 nitro.  What would be there rimless equivalent?  I know there are some wildcats like the 600 ok which is about 500 fps faster.  I would love to hear of some others or experiences
