Springfield Armory Question?

I own 2 springfield pistols, a 1911 loaded and a 40 xd.
the guns are total quality through and through.
they are some of my most accurate pistols,and I'm a lousy shooter lol.
they make me look alot better than I really am,and the customer service department treats their customers like royality,although I have never needed them.
I've heard alot of stories about their servcice department going out of their way to assist shooters with any questions,replacement parts,manuals, springs etc.
with just a phone call they will ship you any broken parts needed to get your pistol back into service.
I have yet to wear out or break any parts yet,but I'm glad I dont have to worry about it.

I have two Springfiels 1911 45's.  One is a base model, no frills gun, the other is a target, stainless, full length guide rod, and very pretty.  I actually like the feel of the base model better.  It also doesn't have the problems with the guide rod coming loose as it's shot.  By the way, does anyone have a fix for this?  I was just going to remove it.  Anyway, I've never had any kind of problem (except the guide rod) with the guns.  They've both shot well out of the box.

I have never had my 2-piece FLGR shoot loose ... but I HAVE read that if the threads get lubed somehow ... maybe on purpose by an over-zealous owner :eek: ... that it can happen. I'd take some alcohol to the threads and see if that helps.

Hey  The voice of dissent.  My SA experiences have been bad.  My V10 Ultra Compact ported 45 was a total POJ!  FTF, FTE, stovepipe city.  I traded it to a shop for a Browning Hi-Power in 9MM.  They allowed $475.00 on my NIB SA 45.  Avoid the trouble.

Josey:  that's a shame to hear you had those problems as  most of us have had very positive experiences with our 'Springers'.  Did you contact the factory about those problems and did they address them or did you feel you found yourself on the bad end of a lousy customer rep?  

When you mention failure to feed and failure to eject with stovepipes accompanying you raise the worst of my fears about compact pistols.  I've always felt you can only go just so short in barrel length before you begin running into feeding or ejection problems and you are not the first one who has either asked or complained about that.  I would have hoped the Springfield Armory would have been able to resolve those problems for you.  Your stovepipes however sound like they may be another problem all together and may be related to your FTF and FTE problems.  If you could, or would, please provide some additional details of the loads you were using, whether you used or tested additional magazines, and the like I'm certain many of us here could benefit from your experiences with their 'shorties'.  BTW, even though you felt the need to find another handgun, that Hi-Power is, and always has been an absolutely excellent choice and one of my favorites.  

Stan:  for your guide rod problem, a recent Gun Tests or Guns and Ammo article on those things found that they did not improve accuracy.  If you are having problems with yours you might just consider tossing it and going with a good spring from Wolfe.  I have used Wolfe Spring Kits for years and prefer the 22 pounder - but then I shoot hardball or similarly loaded handloads.

Hey  Well, I broke the extractor and the ejector backed out from recoil IMHO.  I tried the pistol after it had been back for repair.  The shells were "dribbling" on my hand.  OUCH!!  The SA V10 never did eject properly.  The pistol would not feed properly for me.  I tried SA, Mec-Gar, PRO and USA magazines. All magazines worked for fit.  The problem of feeding seemed to be a oversprung recoil system.  The guiderod simply worked.  I felt that the springs were just overdone.  The small poly spacer was getting chewed up and I had to replace it.  The short barrel,  recoil springs and guide rod were fine.  The problem was the locktime is just too fast and short.  The extractor needed to be beefed up and the ejectors need more "bite".  The recoil was killer with my chosen and proven 230 gr Federal Hydra-Shoks load.  I generally could fire a shot and have a double feed or no feed at all.  I have very little confidence in "micro" 45s.  My full size Government works great.  I cannot suggest any little 45s,  I bought my SA V10 based on reputation and I was disappointed.

JOSEY: do you have the captured recoil spring guide and inner and outer spring assembly or just the guide rod and spring? If you have the latter you should probably not have the buffer you refer to, polly spacer, my V10 has the latter setup and the only extraction problem I have encountered was when using Wolf brand ammo also with the spacer installed your slide may not be going fylly out of battery to properly eject. Just a thought. Doug

what is ftf,fte and stovepipe??? new to the gun industry and need help??

FTE = failure to extract

FTF = failure to fire

Stovepipe = extracted case james between breech & chamber in near vertical position.
