Ruger M96 lever action 44 magnum?
« on: January 08, 2006, 02:28:17 AM »
I spotted a 44 magnum lever action by Ruger and a thought came to me. Would this make a good bear protection gun in places that I cannot carry a handgun?  Primarily I was thinking about Canada.

I have entertained the thought of a camping/fishing trip into Labrador/Quebec or even Newfoundland. I remember an old college professor who went on a summer long trip and he took a .303 British SMLE as a bear defense gun( this was 15 years ago)

Question I have is could I take a long gun such as a shotgun or short rifle as bear protection in the wilds legally? I did some searching on the various Fish and Game websites but could not come up with a definitive answer. Could anyone here guide me on this issue? Thanks.
