new model 14 7mm-08
« on: January 10, 2006, 12:39:36 PM »
I recently purchased a 7mm-08 and must report that the first range experience was less than impressive as all the stuff I've heard and read about these rifles has lead me to believe.

Shot at 50 yards with Federal 140 grain factory Nosler solid base ammo and got no less than 2 inch groups at 50 yards.  I will put about 100 rounds thru it experimenting with different factory ammo before I give my final judgement.

I do reload and have the 7mm-08 FL and neck die. Not going to on this rifle because the manual says it will void the one year warranty if reloads are used.  I will wait just in case!

I wont keep a rifle unless it will beat this at 50 yards.  I'm looking for no more than 1/2 inch at 50.  Not unreasonably is it?

Let me know of any other experiences with this rifle. thanks

probably doesn't like the ammo. my savage shot 2" groups with a certain weight and brand and when i switched it shot 1/2" groups.

I have it on good authority that the telepromter is writing a stern letter.

I agree w/ mjb. All 3 of my Savages are tack drivers and this includes my 7-08 Model 11. You need to try a couple brands and weights to find out what tickles your gun's fancy accuracy wise.  I've had good accuracy with Rem Corelokts and obtained even better accuracy with handloads (all loads using 140 gr bullets).
