Building the $300 moa .308 - Scope, Ring & Ammo question
« on: January 08, 2006, 05:37:41 AM »
The Survivor in .308 is ordered.
Wanted to go Bull Barrel and .308 as I'll be using it for Silhouette and need 5 rounds in 120 seconds, and .308 has most affordable semi-match grade ammo (the cost/time factor of reloading is still making reloading not realistic... yet..).
But I'm a little nervous in opticsville...
Ordered a Tasco Varmint.
So many mixed reviews; I wanted an inexpensive scope with good clicks, reliable zero, and mil-dot reticle.
Only other scopes I have are an excellent hand-me-down older Zeiss on a 30-06 and a Busnhell .22 on a 10/22.
Never had an inexpenisive scope on a rifle bigger than .22.
Also debating rings.. the Tasco has 42mm objective, I think Burris Signature Zee mediums will work with the NEF rail and a 42mm.
I'm all ears (or eyes as the case may be) on Optics and Ammo.
Prob gonna go to WallyWorld and get a few different 308 types, will break in (40 rounds) after big cleaning with WWB.
I'm of the 'modern rifles don't need breaking in' school, but I'm certainly not experienced enough to be easily proven wrong and have a a change of heart.
This rifle is in lieu of the CZ550 Kevlar Varmint with a Schmitt & Bender that I dream of.
