melting lead with lid on?????
« on: January 08, 2006, 11:20:35 AM »
Been a while since I've posted. Been surfing though...Lots of good info.  Started casting again.   Don't have as much time as I used to --so started casting with a 20 pound lead pot on a Camp Chef propane burner from cabelas (instead of my Lyman Mini Mag). It is much faster.  My melt time is ~ 20 -25 minutes.

I just ordered  a 10" X 4" dutch oven from Cabelas to speed up production even more. So here's my question:

Is it dangerous to melt with the lid on?   I'm concerned about water vapors from the lid falling on the brew and causing an explosion.  I have not done it yet but just wondering.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks..
