Sorry boys, I quit playing with the footholds ,several years ago.
Do I miss drowning wires and drowning weights---not on your life.
I catch all my beavers with one tool---the 330.When you depend on one tool---you learn to use it and depend on it.
I set my 330s ,where most cannot even set a foot hold.
You can play with thos boat anchors all you want---lol--but not me.

I couldent give up footholds if I wanted to. I trap small clear creeks, I run into  square shy beavers. I love 330's I just cant use them all the time. Besides to me it wouldent be beaver trapping without a big ol' foothold. I only use a drowning setup about half the time know. I catch quite a few alive, then use a 22. when I get there :P  I trapped one place this year where beaver wouldent go thru a 330 for nothing, didnt matter if it was half submerged, completely submerged, dive sticks nothing. Wouldent go thru a snare either. They where downright spooky, I broke out the mb's and cdr's. That done the trick.

KYBOY, like I said, when you only use one tool, you learn how to use it.
This is not a put down of snares or footholds---just my observations. Most guys that miss or dont take beaver in 330s right away, switch to snares or footholds. They do not spend the needed time to perfect tricks, to fool the smart ones-----I dont rely on anything but 330s and I have super faith in them---so I better know all I can on how to use them.
The roads to the furbuyers are paved with those that fell to my 330s.

Everyone has thier own style. Me I wouldent use just one tool if I could. Part of the fun for me is trying new sets and new tricks.

In 42 years of trapping ,I have done my share of experimentation and hit a miss trial and error.
My trapline knowledge came from this and reading. No mentors ,videos,or computers .Trapline knowledge, was not shared as it is today.
Depending on the results of your trapline to pay bills, also changes ones perspective a bit---less playing around and more depending on  what produces for you.
My  methods of 330 use have been refined during the last 2 decades, my stubborness has resulted in my complete confidence in the sets I make.
I expect every 330 that I set to catch a beaver, and most times they do.

Tom - I was just pushing your button - LOL.  My footholds did not get wet last year or the year before.  330, stand, stake, a little bottle of lure, and most of the time hip boots - simple, effective.
