savage south paw ?
« on: January 09, 2008, 02:54:56 AM »
Lefty living in a right handed world! I have the chance to buy a savage 11 left handed bolt in 300 Winchester! Was wondering will I have to change the bolt head for a 30-06 barrel! Also a left handed receiver will except a barrel from a right handed receiver? These lefty's don't come around very often i might need to grab this one and make it work for me! I also could just shoot the 300 Winchester barrel! Anyone like the 300 Winchester round? Its a little bigger than a 30-06 but resembles it with more knockdown power? Thanks Dale

Yes you will need a new bolt head for a 30-06.  The Barrels are the same between RH and LH actions.  300 Win is a good cartridge, I would shoot it before deciding to do a barrel swap.

the biggest difference in the 06 and the 300 Win is when you hit something with the 300 it drops!!!

A reloader can load the .300 down to .30-06 levels easily. I would give the .300 a chance before I considered a barrel swap.
