:? well went out today to shoot. but it didnot shoot good at all using tha same ammo that i got .531. dont under stand what happend. i ant changed nothing . but a good cleaning i did take the forearm off to float the barrel but decided not to . im getting 2" groups at 100 yards know . eny suggestions

Czbuff,saw on another thread where you said you've got side to side play.....that is almost DEFINATLY your problem....i've got the same thing in all 3 of my barrels....how loose is yours?

:lol: well it can be both. but out of confuision . i found side to side play on barrel lock up i ant saying it ant me . ill try different tourq settings on the forarm win i get to shoot it again. i am new to the gun world been shooting bows all my life. thanks for the idies

dont now how to measure. i can just fill it give a littel i hoping this ant the problem because the first time i shot it . it shot very well

Czbuff,from what I've heard a .003 is loose,so you've got a pretty sloppy fit....how long ya had the rifle?

got it dec 29th. but did not get to shoot it untell a few days ago. was whating on the scope to come in

if this is a factory fitted barrel give them a call and tell them how bad it is and have them fix it. and get a trigger job while its up there.

i have only shot 3 boxes out of it. but it was tight wen i got it maybe there was a bur on the underlug and over the time i shot it . it smoothed out. just throwing ideies

Yes .004 is loose and .003 is borderline, basically there should be no preceved wiggle. czBuff I think your ideas have potential I had a 243 that did the same thing to me but it ended up with a .006" gap.

I fixed it buy putting a shim on the barrel lug, my process was add a thicker one till the action would not close then use one thiner. I ended up a .0045.

So if you are interesed in the result and your .004" gap holds there you could shim the barrel lug , a .002 or .0025 should do. But really the gun should go back. I went the fix route purly because I did not want to take the time to ship the gun accross the border, and the Canadian repair depot guy did not give me a good impression. Since the process would be way quicker for you the gun should go back.

The .375 notch in the lug is the weak point. I believe the area streches over time shimming will help, but may open up again. I have tried several different ways to tighten this area up, I have welded the notch solid and remilled and hand fit only to find that it opens back up after 10 rounds or so. I finally, after all else had failed, built a solid hole, like the encore, I milled about an inch or so off the end of the lug and welded this peice in. Previously shooting over 700 rounds trying different things, the gun has NEVER shot like it does now the first three rounds were in the same hole the secret is this lock-up, or should I say locking-up squarely on the receiver and the same lock-up ever time. Seating depths, powder amounts, different primers, for the most part don't make much difference in group size, a good load ofcourse shoots better but it has never shot like it does now. I say it again, lock-up is everything.

i had this problem with my .223 ,played with the fore end screw tightness and back to normal . must put pressure on the hinge point or something :-)
