30-30AI sizing dies
« on: March 03, 2003, 05:14:44 AM »
I have been thinking about having one of my H&R 30-30s rechambered to a 30-30 AI.  I got to looking in the Midway Catalog and see that the only dies they list are RCBS and go for over $100.  If I can't find dies for less than that I won't do the rechamber.

I was wondering if The Lee Collet die for 30-30 will work or if the shoulder will be in the way?  Has anyone tried this.  Another thought was if just neck sizing useing a regular 30-30 die would work?

Next question is, does anyone else make a 30-30AI sizing die?

You can only hit the target if the barrel is pointed in the right direction when the bullet leaves the barrel.

Try CH4D. It may be a wait, but they have them, or will make them.

They list the price at $69.00

dies for Ackley Improved cartridges

In a pinch, you can usually use other, larger-caliber sizing and seating dies to load AI cartridges.

For the .30-30 AI, for instance, you can NOT use the regular .30-30 sizing or seating dies because the AI shoulder diameter is larger.

But, you can use the .300 Savage, .308 Winchester, or similar-lenth (or shorter) sizing die to neck-size the fired .30-30 AI case.  Similarly, you use the .300 Savage or .308 Winchester seating die to seat bullets in the .30-30 AI.

Yes, wildcat reloading dies are expensive, but short of finding good used ones, all you can do is modify standard dies (re-ream) or adapt existing dies.

30-30 Ack

I purchased my dies from Redding. I built a 30-30 Ack on a Remington 788.  The Reddings are a special order so it may take a few weeks to get them.
