remington spr 308
« on: June 04, 2006, 09:02:37 AM »
I have been thinking of getting a remington spr in a 308 cal. Does anyone have one or any helpful info on this. Right now I just hunt deer, but would like to hunt elk some day.

A Remington SPR? I only know of shotguns from Remmy with that label.

I cant think of any sniper rifles from Remmy that are named SPR, I can think of an "FN" model with that name however.

Isn't the SPR the Spartan Double Rifle that Remington is supposed to be importing from Russia?

From what I understand they are imported from some where but they are not a double rifle.  I have been on remingtons site and looked at them.  They are priced in my price range and have iron sites is why I am looking at them.  just don't want to get something I don't like, so I'm doing as much research as possible.  how is the 308 for hunting?

You can take pretty much anything with a .308 as long as you put that bullet where it needs to go and you chose the right type. Its my favorite caliber by far. Tons of ammo to chose from and relatively cheap.

You mean this one?:
http://www.remington.com/products/firearms/centerfire_rifles/SPR_models/

I have only held the single shot, shotgun. And I was very disappointed. The fit and finish was terrible in my opinion, especially when compared to an H&R. Though I can't speak about the centerfire models much. They do have a Crome lined barrel though, and that makes for such an easy clean up.
As for the 308?-I am a huge believer in the cartridge, and am a big fan. For hunting deer it's excellent, and if you handload it's great to work with. I have friends that hunt elk with a 308 and do very well....but I have never shot an elk, so I can't speak with experiance on that.

Yes that one the spr18n.  Thanks to all for the info.  I'll probably be getting one in a month or so.  Then I can see how they look and shoot.

I think the SPR22 may be a Double Rifle.  It has two triggers and a Jack Screw, while the SPR18 only has one trigger and no Jack Screw.

The picture doesn't show too much detail, but why would they put two triggers on a single shot for $699.

JVS the SPR22 is a double barrel centerfire rifle. And your right about the triggers.
The Spartan line was made for/by EAA and was the Baikal line. Do a search at the top of the page and look for EAA or Baikal in Single Shot Rifle forum. You will find a few threads started about them. Here's a few to get you started:
