rossi matched pair for son's first squirrel gun?
« on: December 17, 2005, 03:49:34 PM »
I took my boys out to their first hunting today.
It was sponsored by the Georgia DNR and several local sporting good stores and held at a local WMA.
About 20 kids in all with parents and several volunteer hunters along with their squirrel dogs broke up into to hunting teams.
My oldest got his first squirrel and loved it. My youngest almost got a squirrel and loved it too. Well, I learned how to skin and section the legs and shoulders.
I'd like a recommendation on a good gun for my kids.
I've seen rossi match pairs and want to know which combo would be better: .22/.410 or .22/20 guage ?

Depending on age and size i would go with the 20 ga. due to the larger pattern and shot load . Less chance of a miss on tree rats and it can also be used on other game , like birds.

I am not a big rossi fan , But for a first gun the combo is not a bad choice .

Thanks for the reply.  I think I may get to the gunshow this weekend and look for a rossi.  Guess one nice thing is that you can buy barrels in other guages as need arises and I expect the gun is small enough to carry broken down while packing it.
