Author Topic: Remington 209 Muzzloader Caps (Read 541 times)

OK I see that Remington has developed a 209 primer specifically for muzzleloaders. According to their ad's it cuts way down on fouling and you can get 10-15 shots between cleaning.

My question? Who has tried these caps and do they work as advertised? I use Triple 7 and was shooting regular 209 caps and fouling was pretty stout.

I would love some input here....

I had misfires with them, started using the Winchesters , had no problems with them.

The Remington Kleenbore 209 primers have been out since September and sold at most Wal Mart stores. I have used them in the .50 Encore and the fouling is indeed alot less along with the blow back into the breech area.

I killed two bucks with them also in November using 300 gr. sabertooth bullets and 110 gr. T7 FFg.

So I like them and will stick with them even though they are pricey compaired to other primers.

Were you using pellets or loose powder when the misfires occured?

3 777 pellets and using 120 grains AP FFG

I have heard this before with T7 pellets. I am going to try pyrodex pellets to see if they have ignition problems as well.

I have been using the Rem. 209s with 777 powder and I have had no misfires, just as I had no misfires with either Winchesters or CCIs. I do think the Rems. leave less residue, but I have also been swabbing between each shot. Next time I go to the range, I will try shooting a few without swabbing of both the Rems. and the CCIs and report. I do not have anymore Winchesters.
