« on: November 01, 2005, 03:12:39 AM »
Just a few more days and I will be in the woods doing what I love the most.  I will be hunting in Nelson County the first two weeks this year with friends.  Muzzleloading season starts on Sat. and goes till 18 Nov.  then it changes to firearm season.  What a life, retirement is good!!!!!!

Hope to fill my tags and freezer.   :D

Good luck.  So what's the secret to retiring at 58?  I'll be lucky to retire at 66!

Well Greg, 3 heart attacks and a five way bypass surgery.  After last attack and operation it really slowed me down and made it difficult to play cop.

Well Muzzle season here in Va. was good.  I got a small buck and missed the buck of a life time.  I still don't know how I missed, but it happens and the grand old buck will live for another day ( just glad I didn't wound him and waist a grand buck).  I do know where he lives now and will be looking for him during firearm season.  I have till the first week of January to try.

Will be going back to the woods next week, so wish me good luck!

I love hunting.

Check the age on my profile there, been retired over 10 years.    Went out at age of 50. The secret is wanting to be retired more than you want to make money. Just went in one day and told them I didn't wanna do that no more and was going home.

Hi Lawfull Larry,

You wouldn't have been hunting in the Jefferson National Forrest outside Arcadia in Botourt Co?  (North Creek).  Thats where me and my buddies were, and you look kinda familiar.  I got two in Bedford by the way.

Hey Horseman,
Not me.  I hunted Nelson and just got back from a week in Cumberland.  Got a spike at about 180 yards across an open field.  He went down like a bag of rocks.  That is the first one shot, drop in it's tracks, for me.  I did it with a Win 70, .25 WSSM.  It was loaded with a 100 gr. spitzer.  Very accurate load for me.

Hunting this year has not been great.  I will go back out the last two weeks of the season and hope it is a little better.

Well the season ended last Saturday and I wish it didn't.  All in all I harvested four deer.  It was all great hunting, but I am a little suprised at the trip to Nelson county.  Didn't see a deer one.  I got grunted once while still hunting, but that was it.  I hunted thee for a week.  The fellowship was great and the card games interesting, but no deer.  It is usually a great place to hunt.  I wonder why the lack of sightings?

Oh well there is always next year.  How did everyone else do this season?
