You know what you all need to leave this be. I did it one time and I stop when my dad Nicely said they could get me befor i could get my gun out.  I have a ruger Super Redhawk in 454. And yes i live in FL . This is getting very old  and you need to do other thing than go after people and if i did die i would die with a gun in my hand and would take a pig to the upper room with me.

so now you put away the super sling shot and you are hunting pigs with a 454 instead?Your original post and follow ups argued how capable you were of killing wild pigs with your sling shot.that is what we are talking about, when you ask stupid questions...

you know what NONYA (censored word) you, (censored word) the hog hunting. When i first put my hog hunting fun down i thought their would be some cool thing said. Not this. I can kill a hog with my slingshot, i would not do it now because it might not kill them all the time. I use what i like i like shoot my 454 and 8mm so that what i use. on other froms if someone thought you were make something up they would just say it and leave it at that.  As some once said "if you don't like with someone saids just don't say anything back" be the better man.

you should take thier advice, not spout a bunch of profanity and insults and then quote thier good advice.I could kill an angus bull with a slingshot if I had enough time, ammo and a very co-operative bull but that dont mean Im stupid enough to try it,we were trying to tell you that it is a very stupid idea to even try to take a hog with a slingshot because you could end up getting hurt.Whoever told you it was a good idea isnt much of a hunter and I wouldnt listen to a word he says, stick with the handgun or a rifle and post some pics when you get one, otherwise have your family post your obituary after the slingshot hunt is over.

Knife for hogs?
« Reply #35 on: January 01, 2006, 09:31:43 AM »
Seeing this subject reminds me of a program on OLN where a guy hunted for pigs in Texas with a knife. They were small pigs and the dogs would immobilize them then he would go in with his knife. On one pig the guide also held the pig for him to stick. Watching him do it didn't make it as dramatic as it sounds. Now a big razorback with minimal help would be very dramatic.

There is a season for pig hunting in Hawaii that allows only dogs and knives,I think I would wait for the gun season!

.308sniper- That's the guy. I couldn't remember his name since it is a little different.  He looks like one of these guys with more money than sense. But on the other hand; no guts, no glory.  Which may bring up another subject: Do some of the people on hunting networks finance their appearance in hopes of notoriety? Rumor has it that is how Orange County Choppers first got on the air.

I saw the Tred Barta episode about hog hunting with a knife. It was the first and last of his shows that I will watch. Between the dogs holding the front of a small pig, and the guide holding the rear legs and stretching him out, my daughter could have killed that hog with a knife. Like most of those outdoor shows, it was all very staged and not what I would call hunting. He was in no danger. I'm sure there was a guy standing close by with a rifle in case the mighty Tred missed. He should just buy his pork at Publix.

In my opinionn the guy is an arogant jack***,Imm pretty sure he funded his own show otherwise nobody would pay to put that crap on television.

I have hunted hogs in Florida with a knife, a 4" folding Gerber & 4" Cold Steel folder.  I saw the Ted Barta episode, and it was the most ridiculous episode I ever saw.  The guy who has the dogs I hunt with would never allow such a ridiculous kill.  The reason for the knife is so not to kill the dogs with a bad shot from a gun, they want no guns close to these "catch" dogs.  If you think its easy to walk up on a mean-azz boar hog with a dog stuck to his ear or jowl, kneel on his head (staying away from the cutters) and cut his throat,,try it sometimes.  It is a testosterone rush, that's why people do it.  The best part of it is running through the swamps where I hunt after a sceaming pig knowing that whatever is on the other end of the dog or dogs has to be killed as quickly and efficiently as possible before it has a chance of getting loose and killing the dog , hog could be 50# or 250# still has to be killed.  You don't even want to hear the stories of some of the injuries gotten doing this type of hunting! I have come to realize that there are 2 things a boar hog just don't like, dogs and men with knives! And no, I'm not an idiot that will go after them with a slingshot!!!

Here is you folks a story about the power of a slingshot.
while doing a search of a backyard of a nice well to do house,
I got in a chase after a teenager. I chased that little fool
until he could run no farther. (and I was about to puke dinner myself)
He spun around and fired At me with a slingshot...
Now this was before the days of cops having body armor...
Anyway, The marble he fired almost centered me in the chest.
There was no keeping my feet and down I went.
I was instantly incapacitated for a couple of seconds but
when I started to pull my weapon the kid was gone on his way.
Point of the story, A slingshot can be a formidable weapon ...but
The marble did not even penetrate the shirt and T-shirt I was wearing.
A hog would probably be as pi$$ed off as I was !
Now if that had been one of those 1/4 in. Steel shot, the story might
have ended differently. I do know that The IRA and Palestinian rioters
have used modern surgical tube slingshot as weapons with lethal effect.

Guys ya'll are being very judgmental. I personally killed a 350 pound Boar hog (the most dangerous kind) with a  22 calibur only slingshot. Curdog's hounds held him (the hog not Curdog) and I charged in, wrapped the slingshot around the hogs neck, and choked him to death with it. This is all certified and documented thru THE SLINGSHOTS FOR HOGS HUNTING FOUNDATION located in Little Rock, Arkansas. Come to think of it Curdog may have a video of the hunt and kill for about $50.00. Cash only. Just send me the money and I will get it to Curdog, who in turn will send you the video. Happy hunting. :D

From where the Sling came from, It was indeed used to kill whatever was after the sheppards
flock at the time. Slingers would decimate an opposing army with slings before they came close enough to bring hand to hand weapons into play.
There are historical accounts of sheppards killing Lions and Bears with a sling.
(and of course smelly giants ;))
I know some of the stuff in this thread sounds like B.S. But A Sling would be perfectly
capable of killing  a hog in a properly skilled hand. I have used a sling of the ancient type
(I collect exotic weapons) but am not accurate with it. I can hurl a one ounce lead fishing weight
at substantial velocity with it and have splintered sapplings when I actually do hit them.
Those ancient folks were pretty smart. Something else you guys that like a challenge need to try
is something called an Atlatl. (search for them on the net) It was kind of the Compound Bow of the ancient world. It too is an impressive weapon.
