Some time back I read an article in one of the major gun magazines concerning rifles chambered for the .22WMR round. Bottom line here, the Savage 24 in this chambering was the most accurate of all the rifles this author had tested.
I have one of these, a birthday present many years ago, and yes it shoots wonderfully. And yes, the stock is walnut, though quite plain. A collector of these said he had seen many variations come out of the factory. Mine has the barrel selector on the side of the receiver, not on the hammer as older ones did. Mine was probably made in 1962. In those days they could ship them through the mail and no FFL, etc.
I'd snatch that rifle in a heartbeat.
